Neither my husband nor myself are photographers but last week we took on the responsibility of capturing a publicity shot for a small Australian loose leaf tea brand. It really was great fun, the room smelt positively delicious with nearly 60 varieties of tea open and laid out over the props table. I had brewed quite a number of them to find just the right colour for the image. The variety of shade and tone that can come from so many different teas and blends is wonderful. You can find half the colour wheel in the steeping of leaves from the same species of plant. Brilliant. From those who have seen the pic so far we have had happy responses but we shall see how it fares branded and out in the world….

Seeing that we are ‘renovating’, which is an inadequate word for the work that we have to do on our house, we have been spending an inordinate amount of time at the hardware store. Staring, dazed up the nail, screw, nut and bolt isle during the week, I thought that I should probably not walk away without the supplies to create one of Anni Albers washer necklaces. They were very quick to make, each one taking only half an hour to thread. One could fit right in to any home reno wearing a bunch of these. Quite chic!

A couple of weeks ago one of my girlfriends had a party and as I’m not really the gift giving type, merely because I find it very difficult to find the ‘right’ gift and usually agonise over its usefulness, I decided to make a cake. Naturally, the cake was of the least priority to the dressing but nonetheless, it worked out. A happy birthday surprise!
Cake: moelleux. sliced, served hot and doused with real vanilla ice cream.
Dressing: 100% cotton of varying light weights. Fabric pieces painted with stiffener, cut into shape and sewn together.
